Στην 32η διοργάνωση του σωματείου ηθοποιών, οι μεγαλύτεροι σταρ της βιομηχανίας βραβεύτηκαν, σε μια βραδιά αφιερωμένη αποκλειστικά στην τέχνη της ερμηνείας.
Το Χόλιγουντ τίμησε κυριολεκτικά τα δικά του πρόσωπα. Στην 32η διοργάνωση του σωματείου ηθοποιών, οι μεγαλύτεροι σταρ της βιομηχανίας βραβεύτηκαν, σε μια βραδιά αφιερωμένη αποκλειστικά στην τέχνη της ερμηνείας.
Η τελετή, με παρουσιάστρια την Kristen Bell, μεταδόθηκε ζωντανά μέσω Netflix από το Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, την Κυριακή 1 Μαρτίου, σηματοδοτώντας μια νέα εποχή για τον θεσμό.
Φέτος ήταν η πρώτη χρονιά που η διοργάνωση πραγματοποιήθηκε με νέο όνομα -Actor Awards- αντί για Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards). Η αλλαγή δεν ήταν απλώς αισθητική. Σύμφωνα με την επίσημη εξήγηση του οργανισμού SAG-AFTRA, ο νέος τίτλος αποτυπώνει με μεγαλύτερη σαφήνεια τον πυρήνα του θεσμού: Την τιμητική αναγνώριση των ηθοποιών στον κινηματογράφο και την τηλεόραση, τόσο για το αμερικανικό όσο και για το παγκόσμιο κοινό.
Μία από τις πιο συγκινητικές στιγμές της βραδιάς ήταν η απονομή του SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award στον Harrison Ford, με τον Woody Harrelson να αναλαμβάνει την παρουσίαση της τιμητικής διάκρισης. Ο Ford προστέθηκε σε μια ξεχωριστή λίστα προηγούμενων βραβευμένων που περιλαμβάνει ονόματα όπως η Jane Fonda, η Sally Field, η Barbra Streisand, η Helen Mirren, ο Robert De Niro και ο Morgan Freeman.
